ADVOCACY

The Visiting Scheme has uncovered a real need for people unused to dealing with officialdom to have help and support during negotiations with a range of bodies like housing associations, local councils, benefits offices, banks and legal officials.
We have been shocked to discover elderly people left for years without heating or hot water, others with benefits going astray or being underpaid, yet others involved in rent disputes which they simply do not understand.

We want to build up a pool of people who would be available regularly or occasionally to accompany clients to crucial meetings during working hours. We are looking for people who are calm and good negotiators, and who have either worked for or have extensive experience of one or more of the following:

» benefits offices

» local councils

» housing associations

» banks/building societies

» utilities companies

» solicitors/barristers/courts
